January is National Mentoring Month. To celebrate, Alumni Relations and Career Services is hosting the Rhodes College Winter Mentoring Program to connect our exceptional students with members of the incredible Rhodes Alumni Network.
The Rhodes College Winter Mentoring Program is intended to supplement a student’s academic career with “real world” exposure by providing a meaningful mentoring experience with Rhodes alumni and parents. This will primarily be through “one-on-one” interactions between the student and the alum. The program is not intended to lead to employment or job offers, but instead seeks to provide a learning opportunity for the student outside of the classroom experience.
The relationships are intended to:

Be professional in nature

Help set expectations in the professional workplace/graduate school

Help students make the transition from an academic environment to the world of work/graduate school

Offer an opportunity for professional development, networking, and an exchange of ideas between experienced professionals and the next generation of leaders
Throughout the month of January, mentors and mentees are encouraged to meet for 3-4 one-hour sessions (in person, via Zoom, etc.) to discuss the following topics:

Introductions: basic personal information such as how you each chose Rhodes College

Shared interests Ways in which your Rhodes education/experience led to your current position

Resume builders: how to get noticed?

Interview tips

Guidance in building professional networks Grad school? Certifications? What’s most helpful?
This program aims to establish positive relationships between students and alumni, and to help prepare students to enter the workforce after graduation. Mentors will be matched with students with consideration to undergraduate major, graduate school or career interests, hometown, or Rhodes student activities and organizations (Greek, Athletics, Student Government, BSA, LGBTQ, etc.). Registration for the Rhodes College Winter Mentoring Program is open until December 2, and student/alumni matches will be emailed by December 14.
